FatPipe SD-WAN Offered on Azure Cloud

FatPipe Networks announced a new software-defined wide-area network (SD-WAN) offering for the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, promising better performance for enterprise users of cloud-hosted Office 365 and other applications.

FatPipe SD-WAN for Azure was unveiled by the Salt Lake City-based company — which claimed to be “the inventor of software-defined networks (SD-WAN) for wide area connectivity and hybrid WANs” — last month.

“FatPipe SD-WAN for Azure, an SD-WAN Virtual Machine, enables Microsoft Azure customers who use Office 365 and other cloud-based applications to get a better experience by overcoming the need to reconnect every so often when the sessions break,” the company said. “This is especially important for customers and offices where large groups have to use Office 365 or other cloud-hosted applications, or when a single line connection to Azure is not adequate to address line drop issues.”

The offering, available under the standard Azure “bring your own license” scheme, can be licensed with the company’s other suite of features such as SD-WAN, WAN optimization, network visibility and reporting, VPN and Quality of Service. The Azure Marketplace entry also shows total cost estimations for various recommended levels of virtual machine instance service ranging from about $82 to about $327.

Along with improved reliability, bandwidth utilization and user experience, the company highlighted security functionality provided by its proprietary MPSec technology.

“FatPipe using its secure multi-path MPSec technology provides the highest possible WAN transmission security (an order of magnitude above standard encryption), and is especially designed for multinational corporations, embassies and government that want to use cloud applications but worry about security and compromised ISPs,” the company said. “In addition, FaPipe’s encryption is FIPS 140-2 encryption SD-WAN certified by NIST.”
