How Do I Benchmark My Effectiveness at Managing QoS and Can I Improve?
As the provider of virtualised infrastructure, private cloud, or VDI, correlating the health of infrastructure to application performance is challenging. The sheer fact that the infrastructure you are providing is supporting hundreds or thousands of applications, all with their own performance instrumentation, and the chances of you getting access to any of this is limited, makes this an impractical goal.
Looking at this more pragmatically, it is possible to measure key performance indicators which provide a very accurate representation of whether the shared infrastructure is providing the QoS required by virtual machines when they need it, so they can consistently service the needs of the applications that they support. By measuring these over time this implicates or eliminates the platform as a cause of application performance degradation.
