Video streaming service Netflix is making it easier for users to share their favourite titles directly to Instagram stories.
Starting today, Netflix users can select any title they would like to share and add that title’s custom art to their Instagram story or send to their friends through direct messages.
Users who already have the Netflix app installed on their phone, can click on “Watch on Netflix” link in these stories, to be redirected to the title page within the app to start watching the show. The feature is currently available only on Netflix’s iPhone app across the world, although an Android version is in the works.
Netflix said this feature is part of its ongoing efforts to make its mobile experience more engaging and richer. “We’re always on the lookout for ways to make it easier for members to share the Netflix titles they’re obsessing about and help them discover something new to watch” a Netflix spokesperson told in a statement.
Word-of-mouth recommendations has been one of the key drivers for Netflix shows and this feature will likely prompt more users to share their favourite shows with their followers on Instagram. It could also work as a promotional tools for artists who tend to have huge fan bases on platforms like Instagram.
This launch comes after the Facebook-owned photo and video sharing platform started allowing third-party apps to post content directly to its Stories platform in May last year. Some of the other services offering similar functionality to its users include Spotify, SoundCloud, and GoPro.
