Amazon India is looking to tap into demand for safety equipment, office supplies and more as businesses begin to reopen after almost two months of lockdowns implemented to stop the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company, through its business-to-business (B2B) marketplace, is offering a curated selection of goods that small and medium business would currently require, and is also offering a 10% discount on all orders above Rs 1,499.
Peter George, Director at Amazon Business, told ET that the company was launching MSME Accelerate, a promotional event to help micro, small and medium enterprises get back on their feet, in line with the government’s efforts to reopen businesses.
He added that Amazon Business was looking to provide businesses with a safe and convenient way of procuring their needs in the current times and expects more companies to sign up to buy through the platform due to the pandemic.
From products for cleaning and sanitation, workforce screening and IT peripherals for businesses, to medical supplies for hospitals and distance learning aids for educational institutes, the ecommerce giant is eyeing a wide variety of industries.
The online retailer said it had witnessed a 132% year-on-year growth for B2B business in the past one year, with customers ranging from micro and small businesses to some of India’s largest corporates.
