Amdocs Teams Up for SDN, NFV Orchestration Package
Amdocs has teamed up with Fortinet and Versa Networks to offer a new multi-domain, service provider SD-WAN, software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) orchestration solution.
The solution integrates the Amdocs NFV technology — powered by the open source Open Networking Automation Platform (ONAP) — with the Fortinet Security Fabric and the Versa Network’ SD-WAN platform.
The resulting packaged solution targets service providers, aiming to help them manage virtual network functions (VNFs) across customer premises, datacenters and cloud platforms.
“Amdocs and its Open Network ecosystem partners, Fortinet and Versa Networks, are transforming service providers from the proprietary hardware networks of today to open software-centric networks that leverage cloud and IT technologies,” said Angela Logothetis, CTO of Amdocs Open Network.
The deal marks the second recent industry partnership for Versa, which last month announced a new initiative to wed its SD-WAN technology with the SD-CORE offering from startup Mode. SD-WAN brings SDN benefits such as agility, programmability and the decoupling of hardware from its control software to corporate WANs.
Amdocs is a software and services specialist that targets communications and media companies.
The company was an early member of ONAP and commented on the open source offering when it debuted last year, combining two other projects, ECOMP and OPEN-O. “The merging of open source ECOMP and OPEN-O will create the de facto industry standard for NFV/SDN automation and accelerate industry adoption by service providers and the vendor ecosystem,” Amdocs said at the time.
The security-centric Fortinet has also been busy with industry partnerships, having earlier this year teamed up with Verizon and other companies to bundle SDN packages.
