A hotel was ransacked allegedly by a group of employees of food aggregator Swiggy, hours after one of their colleagues and a staffer of the hotel clashed over a petty issue at Arekere on Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru on Saturday midnight.
Police have arrested 30 employees of Swiggy and Hotel Empire, Arekere. Windowpanes and furniture of the hotel were damaged. “We have arrested around 30 people, including 21 employees of Swiggy,” said MB Boralingaiah, DCP (southeast).
Mico Layout police said Nadeem from Swiggy was riding his bike around 8pm near Arekere, and Farooq, an employee with Hotel Empire, was returning to the hotel on his two-wheeler. Their bikes grazed against each other near the hotel and that led to heated arguments. Traffic police rushed to the spot and managed to send them back. But the matter did not end there as Nadeem allegedly rushed to the hotel where he and Farooq traded blows around 9.30pm, police said.
Following this, the manager of the hotel alerted police. By then, more than 30 supporters of Nadeem had reached the hotel and threw stones at the hotel’s window panes.
Jurisdictional police reached the spot and dispersed the crowd by resorting to a mild lathi charge. Police have recorded the statements of both Nadeem and Farooq.
“We have registered a case against Nadeem and his supporters for damaging the hotel and assaulting its staff. A counter-case was registered against Farooq for allegedly assaulting Nadeem and others,” said DCP Boralingaiah.
